Tutukaka Marina Manager Dylan Lease has been recognised by the MIA with Certified Marina Professional status (CMP). CMP is an internationally recognised accolade for those that achieve high standards in marina operations and it’s testament to Dylan’s professionalism that the MIA selected him for this tribute.

Dylan says that he embarked on the Advanced Marina Management course, which was very rewarding, in order to gain an internationally recognised qualification, get the satisfaction of an achievement, realise ideas for facility and systems improvement, and to bring new skills to his operation.

Dylan began his marine industry career in what he calls ‘the esteemed position of toilet/ablution block cleaner’ in 2005 at Tutukaka Marina.

During the summer months, Dylan began walkabouts, power checks and assisting with vessel tie-ups.

The Management Trust gave him an the opportunity to work full-time in a Dock Services role and he then became a very proficient splicer, maintaining all the lines for the 254 berths in Tutukaka.

He continued his upskilling by sitting his VHF certificate and running the office on busy summer weekends.

Now as Manager, Dylan is a firm believer in knowing your business and facility “top to bottom” and affirms that he is still ready to unblock toilets at a moments notice!

He says wouldn’t want to be working in any other industry or in any other part of the world and is grateful for all the support from other marinas in New Zealand.

Dylan says he was supported in his quest to upskill by the Trustees at Tutukaka Marina and his colleague Roger Stephenson, as well NZMOA Executive Members Gareth Wilson (Westhaven Marina) and Chris Galbraith (Far North Holdings), and Shane McInnes from Hobsonville Marina, in undertaking the training.
