Finalists announced today in Best Initiative Category (Associate Members)

This week, NZMOA is announcing the names of finalists in the NZMOA Awards, with one category being revealed each day. Today, we are delighted to name the finalists in the Best Initiative category for associate members.

This broad category recognizes special projects, innovations, and developments that are worthy of commendation.

Judges determined that two entrants would become finalists. These are:

Products from Dixon Manufacturing to Improve Safety in Marinas

Dixon Manufacturing, renowned for producing high-quality, long-life stainless-steel products, expanded its focus in 2023 to include a new line dedicated to marina safety. This innovative range features a fire safety station, an emergency ladder, and a site safety kiosk, all specifically designed for marinas and boatyards.

These products are crafted for maximum functionality and durability, meeting the highest standards of safety and reliability. Judges have praised their aesthetic appeal and neat integration into marina environments. Beyond enhancing safety and reducing the risk of loss of life or property, Dixon Manufacturing's commitment to sustainability ensures that these products are designed to minimize their environmental footprint throughout their entire life cycle.

Heron Construction for Waiheke Marina’s Floating Structures: A New Frontier for Environmentally Sensitive Marinas

Heron Construction Company has revolutionized marine engineering with the construction of Waiheke Marina, which features what is believed to be world’s largest attenuator at 4 meters high, 20m long, 6 meters wide and 220tons dead weight, and New Zealand’s largest floating pontoon pods. Amid the challenges of the pandemic, Heron Construction overcame numerous obstacles to deliver state-of-the-art marina components. This innovative development is unique, causing no permanent changes to the seabed and utilizing advanced floating infrastructure.

The completion of Waiheke Marina represents a significant achievement, highlighting Heron Construction’s dedication to innovation and sustainability. This groundbreaking approach to marina construction paves the way for future facilities to be built with minimal environmental impact. Additionally, existing marinas can now expand buildings, increase parking capacity, or extend marina facilities without reclaiming more space from the sea.

This advancement is crucial as it enables projects that might otherwise have been unfeasible, allowing the marina industry to provide essential infrastructure for maritime businesses, employment, and recreation.

Congratulations!
